2026 Osun Gubernatorial Election: Adeleke Eyes New Platform Amid PDP Turmoil

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State is reportedly exploring alternative political platforms to contest the 2026 governorship election amid internal crises in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The revelation came from Mr. Kamorudeen Ajisafe, PDP Deputy National Vice Chairman, Southwest, who said the party is currently unable to present a candidate due to ongoing disputes, similar to the situation in Ekiti State caused by Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s rebellion.

Speaking on a private radio programme, ‘Frank Talk,’ Ajisafe said the governor faces a pressing deadline for the primary, set by INEC for December 15, 2025, to ensure recognition of any candidate.

“It is absolutely known to the whole world that there is no way that the PDP would be able to nominate a candidate for the 2026 governorship election,” Ajisafe stated. “If you block your road or gate for me to enter and the occupant of another platform magnanimously allows me to pass freely, would I be crying that you lock your gate? What do you expect somebody like Adeleke should do?”

According to party sources, Governor Adeleke may shift to Accord Party or APGA to secure a platform for his re-election bid. Discussions with Accord Party chieftains are reportedly ongoing, though no final decision has been made, as the governor seeks the most viable path to contest the August 8, 2026 election.

The situation highlights growing tensions within the PDP in southwestern Nigeria, as governors and party officials navigate political survival amid factional disputes and looming election deadlines.
