The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that former Kano governor and NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would only secure his political future by defecting to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, made the remarks in a statement on Friday, stressing that Kwankwaso’s New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) lacked the national reach and staying power required to sustain his ambitions.
Oladejo described the NNPP as “a spirited but regional experiment” that could not match the APC’s nationwide structure and influence.
“For a politician of Kwankwaso’s stature, only the APC has the structure and vision capable of amplifying his relevance and securing his legacy,” Oladejo said.
He urged the former 2023 presidential candidate to “stop wasting political energy on experiments destined for the archives of history,” adding that the APC was ready to welcome Kwankwaso and his followers.
Oladejo also dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “a sinking ship riddled with infighting,” insisting that no other opposition platform could guarantee Kwankwaso’s aspirations.
“For Kwankwaso and the NNPP, joining APC is not just the best bet, it is the only bet,” he stated.
The comments come amid growing speculation that Kwankwaso may return to the APC, where he previously served before breaking away to lead the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
