2027: Muslim-Muslim Ticket Favors APC, Says Farouq Aliyu

Ahead of the 2027 general election, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Farouq Aliyu has stated that maintaining a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket could be in the best interest of his party.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Aliyu explained that demographic considerations, particularly in northern Nigeria, support a Muslim-Muslim ticket. He noted that the decision ultimately lies with the party and its leadership.

“Well, I stand with my party. These decisions are for the parties and the candidates. So if, in the wisdom of our party and our president, it is to go with another Muslim, so be it. And if he decides to go with a Christian, so be it,” Aliyu said.

He emphasized that speculation about Vice President Kashim Shettima or the party’s ticket should be avoided, noting that the APC has cautioned its members against media conjecture.

Aliyu further highlighted that the choice of a Muslim-Muslim, Muslim-Christian, or Christian-Christian ticket is entirely a political decision for the party, guided by numbers and strategic calculations. “In my opinion, the numbers will be looked at to determine whether to field a Muslim or a Christian. There are more Muslims in the northern part of the country, which means it will be best for the party to take a Muslim from the North,” he added.

He reiterated his support for any decision made by the party, stressing that it is meant to serve the APC’s broader interests.
