The National Secretary of the Labour Party loyal to Julius Abure, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, has declared that Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, will not be on the ballot in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Ibrahim claimed that Obi is merely basking in media attention and has no interest in returning to the presidential race.

“I can tell you, Obi is not going to contest the presidential election. Obi is enjoying media publicity but in 2027, he is not interested in it. We have offered him the presidential ticket, he rejected it,” Ibrahim said.

His remarks come barely 24 hours after Obi reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party and insisted his name would be on the 2027 ballot.

The party secretary further cast doubt on Obi’s recent political activities, suggesting that his moves have raised questions about his true political alignment.

According to Ibrahim, opposition parties, including Labour, have become too weakened to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming election, claiming the momentum built during the 2023 campaign has waned.

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, finished third in the 2023 presidential election behind Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite ongoing speculation about his next political move, Obi has continued to attract significant public and media attention.
