2027 Presidency: Dele Momodu Backs Atiku, Obi, Amaechi or Tambuwal if They Fly ADC Flag

Veteran journalist and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has declared that he will fully support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

Momodu said his loyalty lies firmly with the ADC, stressing that personal preferences would not override party decisions if the ticket goes to any of Nigeria’s major political figures currently linked to the opposition coalition.

Speaking during an interview on Politics HQ, a current affairs programme on News Central, Momodu listed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal as leaders he is prepared to back if chosen by the party.

“I’m very close to every one of them,” Momodu said, describing long-standing personal relationships with the politicians, particularly Peter Obi, whom he said he has known for years both in Nigeria and abroad.

He insisted that his commitment is not to any individual ambition but to the collective decision of the ADC leadership.

“If the ADC decides to pick Peter Obi today, I will support him with everything I have,” he said. “If it’s Tambuwal or Amaechi, I will also support them. And if it’s Atiku, it becomes even easier because I have already worked closely with him.”

Momodu also pushed back against narratives portraying divisions between key opposition figures, especially Atiku and Obi. He recalled their political partnership during the 2019 presidential election, when Obi served as Atiku’s running mate.

“They are not enemies,” he said, noting that both men still interact regularly. He described Atiku Abubakar as a “consummate democrat” who does not hold grudges and continues to command respect across political lines.

His comments come amid intensifying consultations among opposition parties and political heavyweights, as discussions around a possible coalition gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
