“Your Wealth, Your Responsibility” — VeryDarkMan Drags Kiddwaya Over Benue Donation Appeal, Sends Warning to NGOs

Nigerian activist and internet firebrand, VeryDarkMan, has slammed reality TV star and billionaire heir Kiddwaya for asking the public to donate money to victims of the Yelwata massacre in Benue State. The attack, which occurred on June 14, left over 150 people dead, with survivors still grappling with trauma and displacement.

Kiddwaya had earlier taken to X (formerly Twitter) urging Nigerians to send in donations for affected communities. The post, which included a bank account, was met with instant backlash from Nigerians who questioned his sincerity, given his frequent displays of wealth and flamboyance. The uproar led him to delete the appeal.

VeryDarkMan, reacting in a fiery video posted on June 20, described Kiddwaya’s move as performative philanthropy and labeled it “insensitive and tone-deaf.” He said, “You always flaunt wealth—yachts, watches, luxury vacations—yet when it’s time to help, you ask Nigerians who are struggling to feed to contribute. You want to help Benue? Fund it yourself!”

The outspoken activist also issued a strong warning to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) attempting to profit off the tragedy. He stressed that the core issue in Benue is not hunger but insecurity, adding that food donations without security interventions amount to misdirection.

He proposed a more strategic response involving the formation of community vigilante groups. According to him, if local leaders can get approval from the Inspector General of Police for arms, then he would support crowdfunding for proper defense infrastructure.

He said, “Let them arm vigilantes legally. When that happens, I’ll personally publish our NGO’s account. Nigerians will respond. Even if it’s five naira, we’ll raise money for action, not rice and beans.”

VeryDarkMan concluded by calling for collective responsibility, urging citizens to shift from sympathy to solutions. He emphasized that Benue doesn’t need pity—it needs protection.
