Media veteran Omotunde “Lolo1” David has issued a stern warning to online influencers who feign physical disabilities just to join viral challenges. During a recent interview, Lolo1 emphasized the harm caused when creators treat serious conditions like temporary trends, stating: “Everything cannot be for fun and cruise. This is the permanent reality of some people’s lives.”
Her comment follows a disturbing wave of questionable content seen across social media—particularly TikTok—where users simulate disabilities for attention, daring reactions, or shock value. Lolo1 highlighted the moral implications: such behavior trivializes the genuine experiences of those living with disabilities.
Lolo1, well-known for her impactful roles in Jenifa’s Diary and her tenure at Wazobia FM, argued that content creators are becoming complicit in encouraging disrespect. “If your comedy or content comes at the expense of people with real struggles, you’re perpetuating harm,” she said, calling for creators to self-police and prioritize empathy.
According to recent data from the World Health Organization, more than 1 billion people—about 15% of the global population—live with some form of disability. Lolo1 stressed that these aren’t props for amusement but permanent realities deserving respect and dignity.
The veteran entertainer also urged platforms like TikTok and Instagram to tighten content moderation. “Creators shouldn’t be able to simulate paralysis or blindness like it’s a filter. Platforms must remove it,” she demanded, echoing calls by disability rights groups for stricter enforcement and clearer guidelines.
Fans and followers responded with strong support on Twitter and Instagram:
“So true! Lolo nailed it!”
“Stop turning real pain into entertainment.”
With traditional media voices like Lolo1 stepping in, digital platforms are being reminded of their role in shaping respectful content—and the consequences of failing to protect marginalized groups.
