Terry Apala: Why I Won’t Allow My Partner Go to the Gym

Nigerian singer Terry Apala has stirred conversation after revealing that he would never allow his partner to go to a public gym, claiming most women use gyms for reasons other than fitness.

Speaking in a recent interview with Echo Room hosted by reality star Teddy A, the Apala Disco crooner said his stance is based on personal experience from his time as a member of popular fitness centres in Lagos.

“I will not allow my partner to go to the gym. I was a member of iFitness VGC so I’ve been there. I saw what was going down,” he said. “I feel like ladies of nowadays are just going to the gym to vibe and do videos. They’re not there to actually work out.”

The artist claimed that many women frequent gyms to attract attention rather than train seriously. “If they really want to work out, they won’t be focused on doing videos. They are just there to seduce men because some men also go to the gym to look for women. I’m speaking from experience,” he added.

Recalling another experience, Terry said he once registered at a gym in Megamound Estate, where he observed similar behaviour. According to him, only a handful of women are genuinely focused on fitness, while the majority go there for social vibes and entertainment.

His remarks have sparked debate on social media, with many weighing in on whether gyms are more about lifestyle and networking than health and fitness.
