The wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Frances Nonye Soludo, has hit back at Senator Uche Ekwunife, deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging her to stop dragging her name into political battles and instead address questions over her academic credentials.
Ekwunife, while criticising Governor Chukwuma Soludo in a viral video, alleged that his wife once worked under the administration of the late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju, which many considered a failed government.
In a strongly worded response issued through her media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, Mrs Soludo dismissed the claims as “false information, mischief, and pure deceit.” She insisted she never held any role in Mbadinuju’s government, stressing that during that period she was already established in agriculture and real estate.
“Unlike Ekwunife herself, the governor’s wife can never be drawn to political or personal debasement,” the statement read. “The viral clip should be disregarded. At no point did Dr. Nonye Soludo work or serve in Mbadinuju’s administration.”
The governor’s wife also challenged the APC candidate to address allegations that her PhD was obtained from an unaccredited institution. “We also challenge Senator Ekwunife to stick to the line of argument and bring verifiable proofs that her Degree and PhD certificates, said to be fake, are actually real,” the statement added.
Mrs Soludo further accused Ekwunife of attempting to deflect attention from her own role in the Mbadinuju era, which, she claimed, contributed to the administration’s failings between 1999 and 2003.
She concluded by urging the senator to “concentrate on her political journey” and stop resorting to name-calling and character attacks in the build-up to the governorship election.
