The Taraba State House of Assembly has approved a supplementary budget of over ₦128 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, expanding spending plans to cover priority areas not included in the original appropriation.
The approval came on Wednesday after the House swiftly passed the bill through its first and second readings, following a submission by Governor Agbu Kefas. Lawmakers confirmed that the funds would be drawn from the state’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
Governor Kefas explained that the extra allocation would address critical needs in agriculture, healthcare, and security, while also strengthening other pressing areas of development. He revealed that the State Executive Council had earlier endorsed an additional ₦14 billion to meet emerging financial requirements.
During plenary, Majority Leader Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu raised a point of order for the bill’s progression to second reading. Speaker John Kizito Bonzena subsequently referred the document to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further examination and implementation guidelines.
The supplementary budget, lawmakers said, is aimed at plugging funding gaps and ensuring that the Kefas administration delivers on its promises amid evolving socio-economic challenges in the state.
Meanwhile, the Taraba State Emblem Establishment Bill also passed its first reading and has been forwarded to the Rules and Business Committee for detailed review.
This development marks one of the boldest fiscal adjustments under Governor Kefas’ tenure as Taraba positions itself to stabilize its economy and boost public services before year-end.
