The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched a series of precision airstrikes that killed several top Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders and destroyed two gun trucks in Borno State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the strikes followed heavy fighting between Nigerian troops and ISWAP fighters along the Baga–Cross Kauwa supply route on Monday, September 15.
According to battlefield sources, the insurgents attempted to ambush soldiers near Garin Giwa but were overpowered. Eight terrorists, including two field commanders and a unit leader, were killed during the clash. Troops also recovered 14 motorcycles, while other fighters fled with gunshot wounds.
NAF aircraft later pursued the fleeing insurgents to their hideouts in Yebi, where four coordinated airstrikes destroyed their gun trucks and killed more fighters.
Mop-up operations were carried out afterward to eliminate surviving insurgents who tried to escape.
Military officials say the latest operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle ISWAP’s operational networks across the Lake Chad Basin.
