Motorists and residents in Ikire and Odeyinka towns, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, continue to battle with deplorable road conditions despite a N50 million allocation for its rehabilitation in the 2024 federal budget.

According to civic watchdog group Tracka, which monitors the implementation of government capital projects, there is no evidence that the rehabilitation has been carried out.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Tracka noted: “N50m was allocated to the rehabilitation of Ikire–Odeyinka Rural Road, Irewole LGA, Osun State in the 2024 FG Budget. We tracked and report that this project has not been done. Residents told us how difficult it is to ply this road especially when it rains. This provision is of high priority to them.”

The poor state of the road has left commuters stranded during the rainy season, with residents lamenting the hardship it causes for transportation, trade, and daily life.

Tracka’s report underscores growing concerns about budget performance and accountability in Nigeria, where funds earmarked for infrastructure often fail to translate into actual projects on the ground.
