The family of 28-year-old interior décor professional, Deborah Okwori, has revealed chilling details behind her murder in Lagos, pointing to a lucrative N200 million contract as the trigger for her ex-boyfriend’s deadly attack.

Her sister, Hope Okwori, speaking exclusively to Daily Times Nigeria, said Deborah was stabbed to death by her former partner, Lintex Ogale, on September 5 after he disguised himself as a dispatch rider to gain entry into her residence.

From Netflix quarrel to violent breakup

Hope dismissed social media claims that Ogale sponsored Deborah through school. She explained that their relationship was short-lived, ending in 2024 after a dispute over a Netflix account.

“They broke up before her NYSC passing-out parade because of a Netflix account where she added her friend to watch a movie,” Hope recalled. “He wanted the friend removed. She refused because it was her account. He beat her up and destroyed her valuables.”

According to Hope, Ogale later apologised, blaming his violent behaviour on depression after losing his job. Despite his pleas, Deborah refused to return to the relationship.

The N200m deal that sparked rage

Deborah’s fortunes had recently taken a positive turn when she secured a ₦200 million interior décor contract. Hope said Ogale found out about the deal through a mutual friend and became obsessed.

“It has been a year since they broke up, and seeing that Deborah had moved on and was doing well, he begged her to take him back,” Hope said. “She was supposed to be the joy of our mother, who recently retired without a retirement fund.”

How the attack unfolded

On the day of the attack, Ogale allegedly disguised himself as a dispatch rider, sneaked into the estate, and attempted to cause an explosion by cutting the gas pipe in Deborah’s kitchen.

“When that didn’t work, he broke into the house and stabbed her multiple times until she died. Neighbours rushed in when they heard her scream and that was how he was caught,” Hope recounted, breaking down in tears.

Calls for justice

Ogale was apprehended by residents and handed over to the police. He is currently detained at Panti Police Station, Yaba.

Hope has appealed to the authorities and the public to ensure Deborah’s killer faces the full weight of the law.

“My sister deserves justice. He must be punished for what he did,” she said.
