The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe to clarify his alleged links with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or face disciplinary action.
The warning followed a late-night caucus meeting of APGA leaders in Umuahia, where the party accused the former Senate Minority Leader of double loyalty.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, APGA alleged that Senator Abaribe—who secured a fifth term in the Senate under the party’s platform—had recently hosted meetings at his Aba event centre where he promoted ADC activities.
“Nobody can belong to two political parties at the same time. Senator Abaribe must personally declare where he stands,” the party insisted.
Reacting swiftly, Abaribe’s media aide, Uchenna Awom, dismissed the ultimatum as baseless and rooted in speculation.
“Senator Abaribe is alive. As APGA leader in Abia, the party knows how to reach him. It is unfair to issue ultimatums based on unverified rumours,” Awom said.
Pressed on whether the Senator had indeed defected, Awom was evasive: “As an experienced politician, he knows how to go about it. Has he officially told them he has left APGA? They shouldn’t be arm-twisting him for words.”
The standoff has heightened political tension in Abia, with APGA leaders wary of losing one of their most influential figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
