Police in Jigawa State have launched a sweeping crackdown on criminals, arresting suspected motorcycle thieves, drug dealers, and a notorious house burglar in a series of coordinated operations.
The first incident occurred on September 17 when officers from Hadejia Division apprehended a suspect accused of attempting to snatch a motorcycle. The victim, a cyclist, sustained serious neck injuries and was rushed to Hadejia General Hospital for treatment. The motorcycle was recovered while the suspect remains in custody.
Just three days later, on September 20, the same division arrested another man at Gamsarka village in Auyo Local Government Area for allegedly stealing a red Boxer motorcycle from Auyo market.
In Gagarawa Local Government Area, police captured a 22-year-old suspect, identified as Abdussalam, described by authorities as a “notorious thief” who has long terrorised residents of Guard-line Quarters. Items recovered from him included three new wrappers, a long knife, a power bank and scissors. He is currently under interrogation.
The crackdown also extended to Kazaure and Kanya Babba towns, where four alleged drug dealers were arrested during coordinated raids. They were named as Sulaiman Adamu, 26; Usman Auwalu, 25; Kamal Mohammed (popularly known as Cillala); and Aliyu Abdullahi, 25.
Recovered exhibits included 81 wraps of Indian hemp, 281 pieces of Exol tablets, 31 Diazepam pills, 10 bottles of rubber solution, four Tramadol capsules, four Lara capsules, two sachets of suck-and-die substances, and ₦40,855 believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Commending his men, Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, hailed the officers’ “commitment and professionalism” while assuring residents of continued efforts to rid Jigawa of criminal elements.
“We remain determined to make Jigawa State safer and more secure,” he said, urging citizens to share credible intelligence with the police.
