Umo Eno Dumps PDP for APC: Says He Won’t Support Tinubu “in the Dark”

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), openly declaring his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Eno, who confirmed his defection during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, said his decision was driven by his conviction that President Tinubu is performing impressively and deserves visible, transparent loyalty rather than secret support.

“I’m convinced that President Tinubu is doing very well. While I appreciate the PDP for giving me the platform to become governor, the constitution provides the liberty to switch parties,” Eno said.

The governor stressed that it was politically dishonest to remain in the PDP while privately aligning with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

“I couldn’t say I’m in one party during the day and then go to Aso Rock at night to pledge my loyalty. It’s best to let people know where I stand. When comparing President Tinubu with others, I naturally prefer him,” he explained.

Governor Eno’s move represents another major realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape, further boosting APC’s presence in states historically considered PDP strongholds. Analysts believe the defection could have ripple effects in Akwa Ibom politics and beyond, as the countdown to the 2027 general elections intensifies.
