2027 Elections: APC vows to reclaim Zamfara, declares state still its stronghold

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has declared that it will return to power in the 2027 general elections, insisting the state remains its political stronghold.

APC chairman, Tukur Danfulani Maikatako — represented by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau — made the remarks at a reconciliation event welcoming back Ahmad Sharu Anka, a two-time local government chairman and former Commissioner for Lands, who had previously clashed with the leadership.

Danfulani admitted that the party’s defeat in the 2023 governorship election was a “lesson,” blaming internal divisions rather than the strength of the opposition.

“We are now hopeful that our party, which was derailed by members who felt offended, has resolved its disagreements. The APC is united under the leadership of Senator Abdulaziz Yari and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle,” he said.

He added that recent reconciliations had strengthened the party:
“Recently, the party witnessed the massive cancellation of factions, making it great again without unnecessary accusations that previously created misunderstandings and blocked channels for electoral victory.”

At the event, Anka confirmed his defection from the faction loyal to Aminu Sani Jaji, a House of Representatives member, to the camp of Yari and Matawalle.

“As a grassroots politician, I have chosen to struggle for the perfect unity of the APC to ensure the total recovery of its lost power come 2027. Zamfara has always been a stronghold of the APC, and we will maintain that position,” Anka pledged.

The APC leadership says reconciliation with estranged members will be key to mobilising supporters and reclaiming control in the next elections.
