Kano Police Inspector Dies After Accidental Gunshot to Stomach

A police inspector with the Kano State Command has died after accidentally shooting himself with his service rifle while on duty in the Hotoro area of Kano.

The incident occurred around 5:40 a.m. on Saturday and was later confirmed by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported details of the case on X.

The officer, identified as Inspector Aminu Ibrahim of the Hotoro Division, reportedly entered a toilet at Basnaj Global Resources Limited when the tragic accident took place.

Preliminary findings suggest that Ibrahim was squatting when his loaded AK-47 rifle, which was strapped around his neck, discharged and struck him in the stomach. The weapon, marked GT 4177, was recovered in a cocked state with 29 rounds remaining, one short of the 30 issued.

He was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The Kano State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
