Nigeria@65: Ex-Imo Deputy Governor Madumere Urges Nigerians to Embrace Hope and Positive Mindset

Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has called on Nigerians to mark the country’s 65th Independence anniversary with sober reflection and a renewed sense of optimism for the future.

In a statement issued in Owerri, Madumere urged citizens to remain resilient despite the country’s challenges, stressing that a positive mindset is essential for national progress and stability.

“This is our country, and we must contribute our quota by playing positive roles in repositioning the socio-economic, cultural, infrastructural, and peaceful disposition for building an egalitarian society for all,” he said.

The American-trained technocrat described Nigeria’s 65-year journey as one marked by resilience in the face of adversity, adding that citizens must draw inspiration from history while confronting today’s realities with unity and courage.

Reflecting on Independence, he noted:
“Sixty-five years ago, which seems like yesterday, we lifted the flag of freedom and declared ourselves a sovereign nation. That moment was not just memorable; it was the beginning of our responsibility to build a nation worthy of our yearnings and aspirations.”

Madumere highlighted the nation’s pressing challenges, including insecurity in rural communities, rising unemployment among youths, and inflation that has eroded the dignity of honest earnings. He urged urgent action to revive industries, support small and medium-scale businesses, and create a sustainable environment for investment.

He further advocated for holistic human capital development, stressing the importance of equipping Nigerian youths with relevant technical skills in technology, agriculture, innovation, and the creative industries.

“The time to set up this mechanism is now. We must look forward, rejig and re-engineer our financial base, and build an equitable and egalitarian society for future generations,” he added.

Madumere concluded by encouraging Nigerians, especially the people of Imo State, to embrace the lessons of the past as a roadmap to a brighter future, noting that with courage and determination, “a new Imo is possible.”
