Nnamdi Kanu’s Terrorism Trial Stalled as NMA Fails to Submit Medical Report

The long-running terrorism trial of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has been delayed once again after the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) failed to submit its report on his health status.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned proceedings on Wednesday to October 16, 2025, citing the absence of the medical report ordered during the last sitting.

At the previous hearing, Justice Omotosho had directed the NMA President to constitute a medical board to assess Kanu’s deteriorating health condition and determine whether he could continue with the trial. The panel was also tasked with evaluating whether the medical facility at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters could provide adequate treatment or if Kanu should be moved to the National Hospital, as requested by his legal team.

During Wednesday’s session, DSS counsel, Suraj S’aad (SAN), informed the court that the NMA medical board had yet to finalize its findings. He requested a one-week adjournment to allow the panel to complete and submit its report.

Kanu’s lawyers did not oppose the request, leading Justice Omotosho to reschedule the matter for October 16, when the medical board is expected to present its findings and the next phase of proceedings will be determined.

The adjournment adds yet another delay to Kanu’s trial, which has faced multiple interruptions over health concerns, legal challenges, and procedural disputes.
