Nigerian music icon, Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has disclosed plans to mark his 50th birthday by getting a tribal mark identical to his father’s.
The 45-year-old singer revealed this in a video shared on his TikTok page, saying the decision was inspired by his deep respect for his father and cultural heritage.
“By the time I’m 50, I will get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday. A lot of my boys said I won’t do that, but you will see,” he said confidently.
The Ogbomosho-born artist, known for his poetic use of Yoruba proverbs and distinct musical style, rose to stardom with his 2008 hit track “Gongo Aso.” Over the years, he has remained one of Nigeria’s most respected voices in indigenous music.
In a recent interview with Nancy Isime, 9ice opened up about his spiritual journey, revealing that he embraced traditional worship after surviving a severe illness. He narrated how he was directed to an Ifa priest while battling a mysterious ailment that caused him to vomit blood for six months.
“After I got healed, I regretted not becoming a traditionalist earlier,” he said, explaining how the experience strengthened his faith in Yoruba spirituality.
9ice’s latest revelation has stirred conversations among fans, with many praising him for embracing his roots and cultural identity.
