NDLEA Arrests Businessman with 127 Wraps of Cocaine Hidden in His Body at Kano Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, for allegedly smuggling 127 wraps of cocaine into Nigeria through the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspect was intercepted after a body scan revealed the cocaine concealed inside his body. Emeka, who operates clothing businesses in Lagos and Onitsha, arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on October 8.

The illicit substance, weighing 1.388 kilograms, was reportedly hidden in his stomach and private parts. NDLEA operatives placed him under medical observation until he excreted several of the pellets, confirming the smuggling attempt.

In a separate operation in Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted three outbound parcels containing banned substances, including methamphetamine, tramadol, pentazocine, and cannabis, all cleverly concealed inside glass ceramics, vitamin bottles, and herbal packs bound for the United Kingdom.

The agency also made multiple arrests across the country during coordinated raids. In Edo State, 47 kilograms of skunk were recovered from a hideout in Ugbekpe Ekperi. In Osun, two suspects were caught with 635 kilograms of the same substance hidden in a vehicle, while in Rivers, 8.5 kilograms were seized. Another suspect in Katsina was arrested with 29.5 kilograms of cannabis.

A freight agent and a cab driver were also arrested in Lagos for attempting to ship rohypnol pills to South Africa.

NDLEA said the latest series of arrests and seizures highlight its renewed commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and preventing narcotics from flowing through Nigeria’s borders.
