The Lagos State Task Force has arrested several residents in the Akesan area of Alimosho Local Government for illegally dumping refuse, as the government intensifies its crackdown on environmental violations across the state.
The arrests followed multiple complaints from the Oba of Akesan and the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), prompting immediate enforcement action to restore cleanliness in the affected community.
Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the operation in a statement on Wednesday via his official X handle.
“Following reports from the Oba of Akesan and LAWMA, enforcement officers this morning arrested residents caught dumping waste illegally in Akesan, Alimosho LGA. The offenders were taken to the Task Force Office in Oshodi for prosecution,” Wahab stated.
He reaffirmed the Sanwo-Olu administration’s zero tolerance for environmental abuse, warning that those found violating the state’s waste management and sanitation laws would face prosecution.
The Commissioner urged residents to embrace responsible waste disposal habits and use approved collection points, stressing that environmental cleanliness is critical to public health and the city’s aesthetics.
Lagos has recently intensified its “Cleaner Lagos” enforcement drive, targeting areas notorious for indiscriminate refuse dumping, blocked drainage channels, and illegal structures contributing to flooding and environmental hazards.
