Lagos Boxer Arrested for Killing Carpenter in Fight Over Burst Football

A professional boxer known locally as Bintin has been arrested after allegedly punching a carpenter to death during a fight over a burst football in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The incident occurred in the Adamo area after the carpenter, popularly called Yellow because of his fair complexion, reportedly punctured a football belonging to the boxer’s son.

According to eyewitnesses, the boxer’s wife informed him of the incident, prompting him to rush home in anger. He allegedly confronted Yellow, accusing him of intentionally damaging the ball.

Although the community leader, known as the Baale, intervened and ordered Yellow to replace the ball, tensions flared again shortly after. Witnesses said the carpenter bought a new football, but Bintin, still enraged, pursued and struck him on the forehead with a heavy punch.

Yellow collapsed on the spot and was rushed to Agbowa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

Residents described the boxer as hot-tempered and known for picking fights. “He’s always been aggressive. Everyone around here knows his temper,” one resident said.

Following the incident, Bintin reportedly surrendered himself at the Imota Police Station, where he remains in custody.

Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest and debunked rumours that the suspect had been released.

“Divisional Police Officers do not have the authority to release a murder suspect. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation,” she stated.

The Baale of the community confirmed that the deceased would be buried according to Islamic rites and assured residents that peace had returned to the area.

The shocking incident has sparked outrage in the community, reigniting conversations about anger management and the dangers of impulsive violence.
