2027 Election: Northerners Will Re-elect Tinubu Out of Loyalty — Tanko Yakassai Declares

The Director-General of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, has said northern Nigeria will back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections, describing it as a “moral obligation” to repay Tinubu’s past political support for the region.

Speaking in Akure, Ondo State, during the inauguration of the state chapter of the Tinubu Support Group and the decoration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Grand Patron, Yakassai said the North owes Tinubu political loyalty for his crucial role in President Muhammadu Buhari’s victories.

“If Asiwaju supported Buhari in 2015 and repeated the same feat successfully in 2023, it has become a moral imperative for all of us northerners to do the same and work towards the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Yakassai stated. “It is an honour for us to be morally conscious, morally right, and support his second-term bid.”

He dismissed dissenting northern voices against Tinubu as “insignificant,” claiming many of them were people “fingered in corruption or those who couldn’t find space in government.”

“Try to win them over, but if they refuse, leave them—they represent an infinitesimal fraction of the electorate,” he added.

Yakassai reaffirmed that the TSG remains the umbrella body coordinating all pro-Tinubu movements nationwide, saying it will continue to serve as the main structure driving the president’s re-election campaign.

The Ondo State TSG Director-General, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, a former Minister of Transport, said Ondo had benefited massively from Tinubu’s administration, citing projects such as the Akure–Ado Road, Ore–Akure Road, Lagos–Calabar Superhighway, Ilesha–Benin Road via Owo and Ose, Ekiti–Akoko Road, FUTA Teaching Hospital, and the College of Aviation.

According to him, “These projects, coupled with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s achievements, provide a strong campaign message ahead of the 2027 election season.”

Responding after his investiture as Grand Patron, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa praised members of the TSG as “movers and shakers of Ondo politics,” saying their presence made the campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election much easier.

“The calibre of people in this group gives me confidence that Ondo State will play a key role in ensuring continuity for the Tinubu administration,” Aiyedatiwa said, pledging full support to the group’s mission.
