Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has ordered the immediate closure of the disputed Jumma’at Mosque in Donga Local Government Area following a violent clash that left two people dead and several others injured.

The directive was issued during a peace meeting held over the weekend at the Palace of the Gara Donga, attended by traditional rulers, Islamic clerics, community leaders, youth representatives, and members of different Muslim sects.

Governor Kefas, who was on official duties when the incident occurred, said the temporary shutdown was necessary to restore peace and allow the government to mediate between the warring groups.

He announced plans to build three new mosques—one each for the Izala-Jos, Izala-Kaduna, and Darika sects—to ensure fairness and freedom of worship across the community.

“This is to ensure peace, fairness, and freedom of worship for all groups. Our Christian brothers under CAN will not be left out, in the spirit of balance and mutual respect,” Kefas said.

The governor condemned the violence that erupted among the Muslim sects, urging forgiveness and unity.

“No faith teaches hatred. Religion should draw us closer to God and one another, not divide us. Justice is the foundation of peace, and that is what my administration stands for,” he stated.

Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on any act capable of undermining peace and development in Taraba State.

Speaking on behalf of the Muslim Council, Malam Musa commended the governor’s decision, describing it as “wise and fair.”
