Civil servants in Anambra State will enjoy a work-free day on Friday as the government moves to ensure maximum participation in Saturday’s governorship election.
The Head of Service, Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe, announced the directive in a statement on Thursday, confirming that Governor Chukwuma Soludo approved the decision.
According to her, the public holiday will enable workers to travel to their polling units and perform their civic duties without hindrance.
“The gesture is to encourage the active participation of the state workforce in the electoral process,” Igwegbe said, describing voting as both a civic duty and a vital contribution to democracy and good governance.
She directed all permanent secretaries, political appointees, and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies to inform their staff and ensure strict compliance with the governor’s directive.
The state government expressed optimism that the decision will contribute to higher voter turnout and peaceful conduct of the election, which is being closely watched across Nigeria.
