Tensions erupted at the Miss Universe 2025 pre-pageant event in Thailand after several contestants reportedly walked out in protest over the alleged humiliation of Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, by a senior pageant official.
According to multiple witnesses, Nawat Itsaragrisil, a Thai national and pageant official, publicly called Bosch “dumb” for failing to upload promotional content on her social media page — a remark that sparked outrage among contestants.
Bosch, visibly upset, confronted Itsaragrisil over his comments. In response, he allegedly summoned security and threatened to disqualify any contestant who sided with her.
The incident quickly spiralled, with Bosch walking out of the venue — an act soon mirrored by several other contestants who joined her in solidarity.
In a viral video recorded outside the event hall, Bosch described the official’s conduct as “disrespectful” and “undermining” to women.
“As a country, you have all my respect. I truly love Thailand. You are amazing people. But what your director did is not respectful,” she said. “He called me dumb and told me to shut up. The world needs to see this — we are empowered women, and this platform is for our voices.”
The controversy has since triggered widespread debate across social media platforms, with users demanding accountability from the Miss Universe Organisation and Thai organisers.
As of press time, the pageant organisers have yet to issue an official statement addressing the incident.
