
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed full confidence in Nigeria’s readiness ahead of their semi-final clash against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Éric Chelle’s Gabonese side will face the Nigerian team in Rabat on Thursday, with kick-off scheduled for 5 pm Nigerian time. The Super Eagles earned their playoff spot after overcoming a slow start in the qualification campaign.
Bassey, speaking to Sporty TV, highlighted the squad’s renewed confidence and focus ahead of the high-stakes encounter.
“I think we started very slow but we are now, hope has been restored. We just have to make sure that we keep going and just take the game as it comes. We are Nigeria, we are a massive nation, and we know there is a lot of expectation and responsibility,” he said.
The Nigerian squad aims to continue their strong form in the playoffs, with the nation’s eyes set on securing a spot in the next stage of the 2026 World Cup.
