PDP Convention Set to Begin in Ibadan as Governors and Delegates Arrive Amid Legal Tensions

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to commence its much-anticipated national elective convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, as governors, party leaders and delegates troop into the city ahead of Saturday’s opening session.

The party announced the influx of members through a statement on its official Facebook page, describing the gathering as a “historic national elective convention” and declaring Ibadan fully prepared to host the event tagged #Ibadan2025.

One party member, Kehinde Ogunlana, captured the mood in the city, saying: “Ibadan is not just hosting a convention; we are hosting the future of Nigerian democracy. From the bus stops to the hotels, from the roads to the stadium, every detail has been meticulously planned. Ibadan is safe, Ibadan is ready, and Ibadan welcomes the PDP family with open arms.”

The convention, scheduled to run from 15 to 16 November, is going ahead despite outstanding court orders restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising its outcome.

Even with the legal cloud hanging over the exercise, party officials insist preparations are complete and the city, regarded as the political nerve centre of the South-West, is set to host thousands of delegates from across the country.
