The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that its national convention scheduled for Saturday in Ibadan remains firmly on course, despite internal tensions and last-minute political manoeuvring.

Chair of the 2025 National Convention Organising Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Umar Fintiri, made the announcement after a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

Emerging from the closed-door session, Fintiri said party leaders had taken “far-reaching decisions” and were united on moving forward with the convention.

“We are going to Ibadan for our convention, and the convention is sacrosanct,” he told journalists.

The meeting, held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, brought together PDP governors, members of the National Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, and senior party strategists.

Notable figures in attendance included Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde; PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum; National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba; and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Also present was former minister Tanimu Turaki, widely accepted as the consensus candidate for the national chairmanship position.

Other key attendees included Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and the Chairman of the PDP South-South Caretaker Committee, Chief Emmanuel Ogidi.

With tensions easing and top officials reaffirming their commitment, the party appears set for a pivotal gathering in Ibadan that could shape its political direction ahead of future national contests.
