‘Christians Are Targeted in Nigeria’: Fani-Kayode Slams Denials as Killings Surge

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has issued a stark warning over Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, insisting that Christians are being deliberately targeted and killed — and accusing anyone who denies it of spreading dangerous propaganda.

Responding to the latest wave of killings and mass abductions, the APC chieftain said claims that Christians are not under attack, or that “empty coffins” are being buried, amount to a “monstrous mendacity.”

“Christians in Nigeria are targeted and killed in large numbers,” he wrote, describing those who downplay the violence as “genocide enablers” and “specious liars.”

Despite this, Fani-Kayode stressed that the crisis is not one-sided, noting that terrorists are also attacking and killing Muslims across the country.

“What must be clearly understood is that Muslims are ALSO targeted and killed by the same terrorists in equal numbers,” he said, adding that extremist groups “only care about the spilling of innocent blood.”

To illustrate his point, he referenced recent tragedies, including the abduction of 25 schoolgirls and the murder of a school principal in Kebbi State — victims he pointed out were Muslims. He also highlighted the kidnapping of 64 people in Tsafe, Zamfara, and the killing of three residents, all of whom were Muslim.

At the same time, he cited attacks on Christian communities, including the abduction of a Catholic priest and 12 girls in Kagarko, Kaduna State. He further noted that military personnel recently killed in Borno State included both Christians and Muslims.

His remarks come amid renewed debate in the United States, where lawmakers have alleged widespread Christian persecution in Nigeria — claims the Nigerian authorities have strongly rejected. American officials are currently investigating the reports.

Fani-Kayode’s intervention adds fresh intensity to an already heated national and international conversation about religious violence and the country’s faltering security landscape.
