Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kebbi State as the Federal Government steps up efforts to secure the release of schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.

His aircraft touched down at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, where he was received by state officials and security leaders.

Shettima, acting on President Bola Tinubu’s directive, is expected to deliver the President’s message of solidarity to Kebbi leaders and the families of the victims. He will also receive security briefings on the rescue mission for onward communication to the President.

The Vice President was accompanied by the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, alongside other senior officials.

The attack earlier in the week claimed the life of the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly killed while attempting to stop the gunmen from taking the students.

Security agencies say a combined tactical squad has been deployed to comb the surrounding forests in search of the abducted students.

President Tinubu has condemned the attack, sympathised with the families affected, and postponed his planned trips to South Africa and Angola in response to the incident.
