Teenage Motorcycle Robbery Suspect Arrested in Ondo After Brutal Attack in Kwara

A teenager accused of repeatedly attacking motorcycle riders and stealing their bikes has been arrested by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun.

The 19-year-old suspect, Ayomide Oyediran, was captured in Ajue, Odigbo Local Government Area, after weeks on the run. Authorities say he fled Kwara State—where he allegedly assaulted a commercial motorcyclist with a sledgehammer—before taking refuge in the Ondo border community.

Amotekun officers tracked Oyediran during their ember-season border operation, Operation Le Won Jade, which targets cross-state criminal movements.

Superintendent Jimoh Adeniken, spokesperson for the corps, said investigators discovered Oyediran had remained in Ajue for some time before attempting to slip back into Kwara. Local security operatives, already on alert, intercepted and detained him.

“He believed the rider may have died from the attack,” Adeniken noted, adding that the suspect has since been handed over to the Kwara State Local Government Security Initiative for further investigation and prosecution.

Speaking at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure, Oyediran admitted striking the rider and fleeing with the motorcycle, which he intended to use for commercial transport in Ore.

“I asked the Okada rider to take me from Omu-Aran in Kwara to a farm settlement. When we got there, I pretended to make a phone call, then hit him with a sledgehammer,” he confessed. “He ran off and left the motorcycle behind.”

The victim’s condition remains unclear, as authorities continue their investigation into the violent attack.
