A late-night assault on a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint in Kebbi State has left three officers dead after armed men stormed the Bakin Ruwa community in Bagudu Local Government Area.
Security sources say the attackers, believed to be linked to the notorious Lakurawa armed group, opened fire on the officers before setting their patrol vehicle ablaze. The makeshift shelter at the checkpoint was also destroyed during the attack.
The incident was revealed on Friday by security analyst Bakatsine, who posted footage from the scene on X, confirming the deaths and the scale of destruction.
“Yesterday night, gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa attacked Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa community… They killed 3 NIS officers, set a vehicle ablaze and destroyed the shelter area during the attack,” he wrote.
The analyst questioned what more communities and authorities can do to strengthen local security as rural areas across the North-West continue to grapple with recurring armed violence.
The Nigeria Immigration Service has yet to issue an official statement on the killings, but residents say the attack has heightened fear in surrounding communities.
