Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has publicly stated he hopes the president does not seek re-election in 2027, citing concerns over his leadership performance.

Speaking on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST, Baba-Ahmed questioned Tinubu’s commitment to tackling Nigeria’s challenges.

“I’m sorry, but I have to say this again. When I left his administration, one of the things I told many people was, ‘I wish President Tinubu would not run again in 2027.’

“First, he said his ambition was to be president, and he has now achieved that. He said ‘Emilokan,’ and he had his turn. But I don’t think he has run the country well. The Tinubu we used to know, the Tinubu with all the hunger and brilliant intelligence for scheming, hasn’t shown that same hunger to fix things,” he added.

Criticism of Leadership and Performance

Baba-Ahmed, who previously served as Tinubu’s aide, expressed disappointment over what he perceives as a lack of drive and urgency in addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic and political challenges.

He argued that the president, while achieving his long-held ambition, has not demonstrated the same energy or focus that once defined his political career.

Implications for 2027 Elections

The former adviser’s comments could fuel discussions around potential APC candidates for the 2027 elections, as internal and external critics weigh the party’s future leadership choices. Political analysts note that such public statements from former insiders may influence public opinion and party strategy ahead of the next general elections.
