The Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission has terminated the appointments of 324 workers, declaring their employment letters “unauthorised, illegal and unlawful”.

The decision was contained in a statement dated 1 December 2025 and jointly signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Hon. Ezehi MD Igbas, and Secretary, Mrs Isoken Nehi-Olotu. The leadership said the recruitment did not receive the required approval and therefore carried no legal standing.

According to the statement, the employment letters issued to the affected individuals were “null, void and of no effect whatsoever”. The Commission also issued a formal apology to those impacted, acknowledging the disruption the development may cause.

“The Edo State House of Assembly Service Commission hereby tenders an unreserved apology to all recipients of the unauthorised and unlawful employment letters and deeply regrets all inconveniences caused,” the statement read.

The announcement has generated widespread concern, particularly among the workers who believed they had secured legitimate employment, with questions now emerging over how such a large-scale recruitment occurred without proper authorisation.
