
Authorities in Adamawa State are searching for a university lecturer who disappeared from his hospital bed while receiving treatment for serious mental health conditions.
Emmanuel Peter, 40, a Public Administration lecturer at Muhammadu Buhari University (formerly University of Maiduguri), was diagnosed with psychotic disorder, seizures and substance abuse challenges. He had been undergoing treatment at the psychiatric ward of Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola when staff discovered he was missing.
The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a public appeal, urging residents to assist in locating him. According to the police, Peter is dark in complexion and communicates in Hausa, Marghi and English.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, spokesperson for the Command, issued a “Missing Person” alert, emphasising the urgency of returning him to medical care.
“Members of the public with useful information that could assist in locating him are kindly urged to report at the nearest Police Station, Office of the PPRO or contact 0706 290 1177, 0806 580 3697,” Nguroje said.
His disappearance has sparked concern among colleagues, students and mental-health advocates, who fear he may be at risk without continuous treatment.
