
Delta State Police have confirmed that a vigilante on duty at a hotel in Sapele shot and killed three people in the early hours of Monday, December 1. The incident occurred at Ibada-Elume Community and has left residents in shock.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe stated that the suspect remains at large as investigations continue under the Sapele Area Command.
According to reports, the hotel experienced a power outage, prompting some guests to leave their rooms due to the heat. When a vigilante ordered the youths back to their rooms, they reportedly challenged him, prompting him to open fire. One person was killed instantly, and when a crowd gathered outside, the vigilante allegedly shot two more to ward them off.
The crowd later set the hotel ablaze, and the vigilante fled before authorities could apprehend him. Police have launched investigations into the deaths and the ensuing destruction.
