Abia Police Arrest Three Suspected Gun Runners, Recover Seven Firearms in Obingwa Operation

Three alleged gun runners have been arrested in Abia State after police operatives recovered seven assorted firearms during a targeted operation in Obingwa Local Government Area.

The suspects — identified as 65-year-old Nworu John, 65-year-old Chikezie Ubani, and 55-year-old Collins Ukandu — were taken into custody on Thursday following what police described as “credible and actionable intelligence.”

DSP Maureen Chinaka, spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, confirmed the arrests in a statement, listing the recovered weapons as two automatic pump-action guns, three locally-made double-barrel guns, one single-barrel pump-action gun, a locally fabricated six-round revolver, and four live cartridges.

She added that investigators have begun interrogating the suspects as part of a broader clampdown on illegal arms trading ahead of the Yuletide season.

The statement also highlighted the Command’s ongoing security operations across the state, noting that multiple suspects involved in various crimes have already been prosecuted.
Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, assured residents that the offensive against criminal networks would continue without letup.

He urged the public to stay alert and promptly report suspicious activity to law enforcement or via the Command’s emergency hotlines.
