Eight people have been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Oshodi, Lagos, over the alleged assault of officials of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI).
The defendants — Ibiwunmi Oladunjoye (30), Sikiru Oyelami (45), Aja Daniel (29), Sanusi Abayomi (31), Timothy Emmanuel (22), Ajoke Adegoke (24), Ridwan Adeshina (30) and Sulaimon Akinbola (28) — were brought before the court sitting in Bolade on Tuesday.
Prosecutors told the court that the suspects attacked KAI personnel during a joint enforcement operation at Yakoyo Abula Restaurant, located at 134 Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island.
The eight defendants are facing a five-count charge, including conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, conspiracy to commit a felony, unlawfully inflicting grievous harm on seven KAI officials with dangerous weapons, illegal possession of a cutlass, and attempted unlawful killing of officers while they were carrying out their official duties.
All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following their plea, the magistrate ordered that they be remanded at a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned until 28 January 2026 for further proceedings.
