Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), civil society leaders, and activists, including Omoyele Sowore, gathered at the NLC Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday to protest the escalating insecurity across Nigeria.
The protest, described as nationwide, draws attention to kidnappings, attacks on places of worship, and cross-border abductions of Nigerian soldiers. NLC President Joe Ajaero was present alongside leaders of various labour unions and civil society organisations.
Sowore, leader of the Revolution Now Movement, condemned the federal government for failing to protect citizens. “The country is bleeding, and the bleeding must stop immediately. Nigeria’s leadership has failed to protect Nigerians at this time,” he said.
Highlighting ongoing security challenges, Sowore mentioned the abduction of over 250 children in Niger State and the capture of soldiers by Burkina Faso, calling the situation “irretrievable.” He urged citizens to mobilise and demand accountability, stating, “Enough is enough.”
The protest attracted a strong security presence, with officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) deployed to maintain order.
The demonstration signals rising public frustration over insecurity in Nigeria, particularly kidnappings, banditry, and attacks on both civilians and security forces.
