
Gombe State has a new police chief following the deployment of Commissioner of Police Umar Ahmed Chuso, who has officially assumed duty as the state’s 24th Commissioner of Police.
The posting was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, according to a statement issued by the Gombe State Police Command on Friday.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said CP Chuso has already taken over the leadership of the command.
“The Inspector-General of Police has approved the posting of CP Umar Ahmed Chuso to Gombe State as the new Commissioner of Police,” the spokesman said.
Police authorities noted that the new commissioner assumes office at a critical time, as the command intensifies efforts to strengthen security, improve public safety and deepen cooperation with other security agencies and residents across the state.
Officials described CP Chuso as a seasoned policing professional with extensive experience in security management.
According to the command, he is expected to consolidate ongoing security operations while rolling out new strategies focused on crime prevention, intelligence-driven policing and stronger community engagement.
The police also appealed to residents to support the new commissioner by working closely with security agencies.
“We urge members of the public to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information that will help in sustaining peace and security,” the statement added.
The command assured residents that CP Chuso is committed to professionalism, integrity and accountability, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority under his leadership.
