Ogun State authorities have confirmed the deaths of two individuals in a single-vehicle accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, along the Isara-Remo/Erimobi Bridge stretch.
The incident occurred on Monday, involving a Suzuki bus with registration number KRD 194 JW. According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the victims died instantly at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that excessive speed caused the driver to collide with a stationary, broken-down vehicle on the roadway. “The victims were occupants of the vehicle and unfortunately died on impact,” Akinbiyi said.
The remains of the deceased have been transported to the State General Hospital in Isara-Remo, while the damaged vehicle was evacuated and taken to the Isara-Remo Police Station for further investigation. TRACE authorities have launched a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest highways, has witnessed numerous accidents, often linked to overspeeding, poor road conditions, and unmarked obstacles.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and report broken-down vehicles promptly to prevent similar tragedies.
