Bauchi ADC Rejects Claims of Chairman’s Removal, Warns Against Party Factionalisation

A fresh internal dispute has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bauchi State, as the party’s leadership firmly denied reports that its state chairman has been removed.

Speaking to journalists at the weekend, the Bauchi State Chairman of the ADC, Hassan Haruna, described the claims as false and accused suspended and expelled members of plotting to fracture the party by creating a parallel structure.

Mr Haruna said the disgruntled members had allegedly opened what he called a “factional office” and were presenting an “illegal leader” to the public in an effort to destabilise the party.

He further alleged that the group was acting with the backing of unnamed external forces.

“We are aware that they are working with some elected officials of other parties, and we won’t allow them,” he said.

According to Mr Haruna, the individuals involved were previously sanctioned over alleged misconduct and no longer had the authority to speak or act on behalf of the ADC in the state.

He insisted that the party’s constitution clearly outlines the process for removing a sitting chairman, stressing that none of those procedures had been followed.

“They don’t have any legal backing to form a parallel structure,” he added, noting that internal disciplinary mechanisms had already addressed the matter about two months earlier.

The ADC chairman maintained that all 20 local government chairpersons in Bauchi State remained loyal to his leadership, dismissing suggestions of a divided party.

In a strongly worded response, the party described the actions of those it labelled “impostors” as a desperate attempt to undermine its growing influence, unity and popularity in the state. It said such conduct was unacceptable and contrary to the core values of the ADC.

The party urged its members and the general public to disregard statements or publications issued by the factional group, insisting they do not represent the ADC in Bauchi State.

“Our supporters should remain focused, vigilant and loyal to the party constitution and the current leadership at both state and national levels,” the party said, adding that any further disciplinary action would be pursued through established channels.

The ADC also reassured its supporters that it remains united and committed to internal democracy and credible leadership in line with its national objectives.
