Two security guards have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Life Camp, Abuja, over allegations of housebreaking, forgery and theft involving a vehicle and household electronics.
The defendants, Amadi Basil (30) and Arthria Aondona (36), were brought before the court on Tuesday by the police. They each pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors told the court that the case followed a complaint lodged by Mrs Mulika Adekoya, a resident of Metropolis Estate, Karsana, at the Galadima Police Station on 19 December 2025.
According to the prosecution, Basil, who was employed as the complainant’s security guard, allegedly conspired with Aondona to break into the Adekoya residence on 18 December, while the homeowner was away.
Police prosecutor Charity Nwachukwu said the defendants were accused of entering the house through a window and carting away a plasma television.
She further alleged that the pair removed the key to a Toyota Camry from the complainant’s drawer and drove the vehicle to Makurdi, Benue State.
Investigators also accused the defendants of forging the vehicle’s documents with the intention of selling it without the owner’s consent.
The court heard that the suspects were arrested while allegedly attempting to dispose of the car and were unable to give a satisfactory explanation for being in possession of it during police interrogation. Efforts to recover the remaining stolen items, the prosecution said, have so far been unsuccessful.
The offences are said to contravene Sections 79, 289, 326 and 354 of the Penal Code.
Presiding Chief Magistrate Musa Jobbo granted each defendant bail of ₦1 million, with two sureties each in the same sum.
The magistrate ruled that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present valid means of identification. The case was adjourned to a later date for hearing.
