The Adamawa State Police Command has deployed a new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to oversee security operations in Yolde Pate and Sabon Hanya, two neighbouring communities in Yola South Local Government Area, following a rise in criminal activities.

The move comes amid growing concerns from residents who have complained of repeated attacks and insecurity in the area.

In a statement on Tuesday, the police said the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, approved the deployment in response to the security challenges confronting the communities.

“In cognisance of complaints and concerns raised by residents of Yolde Pate and Sabon Hanya regarding recent incidents of criminal activities within the area, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of a new DPO,” the statement said.

Beyond the leadership change, the command confirmed a significant reinforcement of security personnel, with intensified night patrols, targeted raids of identified black spots, and enhanced surveillance operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring public confidence.

The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the measures were part of a broader strategy to stabilise the area and prevent further incidents.

“The Command assures residents of Yolde Pate, Sabon Hanya and surrounding communities of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property,” he said.

Nguroje also urged residents to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could support ongoing operations and help sustain peace in the area.
