Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has delivered a stern warning to married men involved in secret relationships outside their marriages, cautioning that such actions could lead to grave and public consequences.
Bassey, 44, made the remarks in a now-viral video while addressing a congregation, where he condemned what he described as the growing trend of married men deceiving single women under false pretences.
The singer, best known for the Hallelujah Challenge, stressed that his message was not symbolic or humorous, insisting that those who persist in such behaviour would not evade accountability.
“If you’re a married man and you go about deceiving young girls, leading them on — some even go as far as sleeping with them,” Bassey said.
“I place a demand on the grace of God upon my life. If you try it this year, you won’t survive. Your shame will not be forgotten. It will be on social media.”
He also warned against secret hotel meetings, accusing some men of lying about their marital status to pursue affairs.
“If you take a woman to a hotel and you lie — meanwhile, you are married — you will not come out of that hotel. If you like, take what I’m saying jokingly,” he added.
Bassey extended his warning to women who knowingly engage in relationships with married men, arguing that material incentives would not shield them from consequences.
“You too, you are a lady. If you know that a man is married and you know it in your heart, but because of greed, attention, Brazilian wigs, Brazilian hair, or designer bags, you choose to go ahead — if you try it, you won’t survive it,” he said.
The gospel singer urged both men and women to embrace integrity, accountability, and moral discipline in their relationships, emphasising that private actions often carry public consequences.
The video has since sparked widespread debate across social media, drawing both praise and criticism over the tone and intensity of Bassey’s message.
