Abuja Tragedy: Young Woman Collapses, Dies at Boyfriend’s Dei-Dei Residence; Fleeing Man Sought by Police

A 27-year-old woman, Esther Akwaji, has died under mysterious circumstances at her boyfriend’s residence in Dei-Dei, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, sparking a police investigation into the unusual incident.

Esther, a resident of Nasarawa State, had reportedly travelled to the Federal Capital Territory to visit family. On January 21, 2026, she left her family home claiming she was heading to a bank in Dei-Dei, but she never returned. Hours later, her relatives received a call from a man, claiming to be her boyfriend, using Esther’s phone to inform them that she had collapsed while eating at his home.

According to reports, Esther suddenly began vomiting during the meal and was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed her death on arrival. The man, however, allegedly fled the hospital shortly after the pronouncement and remains untraceable.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the police have launched a full investigation into Esther’s death. “The corpse has been deposited for autopsy to determine the actual cause of death, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect,” Adeh said.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the man and help clarify the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
