FG Warns Contractors Against Delays on Sokoto–Gusau–Zaria Highway, Vows Strict Oversight

Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, urges contractors to meet deadlines and maintain quality as federal monitoring intensifies.

The Federal Government has warned contractors handling the Sokoto–Gusau–Funtua–Zaria highway project to strictly adhere to timelines and contractual standards as part of intensified monitoring of the strategic corridor.

Ministerial Inspection
Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, issued the warning on Sunday during an inspection of ongoing reconstruction works across Dange-Shuni and Tureta in Sokoto State, as well as Talata Mafara, Maru, and Bungudu in Zamfara State. The inspection was part of routine oversight by the Ministry of Works to assess project progress, quality of construction, and compliance with contractual obligations.

Goronyo emphasised the highway’s significance, noting that it serves as a major transport artery facilitating the movement of people and goods across the region.

“I am leading a team of directors and senior ministry officials to assess the level of work done, quality of construction, and adherence to project specifications,” the minister said, representing the Minister of Works.

Contractors Urged to Maintain Pace
The minister acknowledged progress on the Sokoto–Tureta–Mafara section but stressed that contractors must maintain momentum and uphold quality standards. Earlier delays linked to property owner compensations had slowed construction, but work has now resumed following resolutions by relevant authorities.

On the Mafara–Maru–Gusau section, Goronyo confirmed that the ministry is actively engaging contractors to ensure timely completion and strict adherence to design and contractual agreements.

The minister reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to completing the entire highway project within the agreed timeframe, warning that administrative measures would be taken against contractors who fail to meet standards.
